Supporting your child

Developing embedded and purposeful links between home and school is an important part of a child's learning jigsaw.

Our regular home learning tasks reinforce the work which is going on in school. Whether these be Literacy or Maths based,  learning spellings or a creative activity, they give the chance to find out more about your child's learning and for them to share what they are doing within school.

A few key pointers for supporting your child with their learning:

  • Listen to them read, talk about the story or the content of the book and ask them to make predictions about what may happen next!
  • Encourage them to read a variety of different texts and genres; older children may enjoy reading magazines and newspaper articles, or a guide book about somewhere they have been.
  • Talk to you child about what they are doing in school on a daily basis.
  • Let them play! Time spent as a family, talking, laughing, playing games and exploring has a huge influence upon a child's personal development- take every opportunity!

Family Learning

Over the course of the year, teacher offer a variety of family learning opportunities, either as one off activities or a series of sessions, these can be a valuable opportunity to work alongside your child within 'their' setting- you never know, you may even learn something too!
