Assessment Update
Earlier this week we held an information session for parents about the changes that have been made to assessment procedures in school. Thank you very much if you attended but we recognise that not all parents were able to make the session.
The accompanying resources will provide an explanation of the changes that have taken place as a result of the introduction of a new primary curriculum and the removal of National Curriculum levels.
The new curriculum has altered expectations across the school and the government has given schools control over the way that they assess these. We continue to work closely with our partner schools in the local area, all of whom feed predominantly into Ansford Academy for secondary education. It is for this reason that we have organised assessment systems that align and therefore, facilitate a smoother transition for all children into Ansford at the end of Year 6. The joint working that we have undertaken as a group of schools has been recognised in Ofsted's Annual Report 2014/15- see page 37 for the case study!
Part of our shared working has been to identify from the primary national curriculum, key objectives that the children should have a good understanding of before they move onto the next academic year. These key objectives are available in the documents below. Please note that these booklets do not include the whole curriculum your children will be taught, just the priority objectives as identified by Ansford Learning Partnership. If you would like more information about the full national curriculum, please visit:
https://www.gov.uk/national-curriculum/key-stage-1-and-2
The objectives in the Year 2 and Year 6 booklets are slightly different. These objectives are taken directly from the DFE Interim Frameworks for Teacher Assessment; this is because the end of Year 2 and Year 6 remain statutory assessment points.
You will also find below, a summary of assessment processes across the school, including the statutory assessments that take place during a child’s primary school years, and a leaflet to offer you suggestions for how to help your children at home.
Finally, the videos embedded below offer a fantastic summary of the national testing process at Key Stage 1 and 2 respectively.
If you have any further questions, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
