BLOG- New Early Years outdoor area

Day 1- Wednesday 29th June

The work begins!  Although this work has been at the planning stage for quite some while, we had very short notice that it was going to happen this week.

We have been looking at how to improve our outdoor provision for the youngest children in the school- a really important part of the EYFS, and are delighted that we have been able to ask for exactly what we are after.

I won't give you too much information at this stage about the plans- but I can confirm that it will certainly brighten up this central part of the school.

Day 1- before we begin...

By break time the work was well underway...

Day 2 Thursday 30th June

The majority of the surfacing is now lifted.  The contractors have been incredibly accommodating, enabling the school to continue to function as normal- we just have to walk a little further to reach some of the classrooms!  Children and parents managed the morning and pick up arrangements brilliantly- thank you and well done.

Day 3 Friday 1st July

All of the old surfacing, patio slabs, soil and concrete has now been removed and the ground levelled ready for next week. New drains have been put in.

 Monday 4th July

A base layer is going down to level the surface and two mysterious vertical wooden posts have appeared- what could they be?

Wednesday 6th July

It's moved on quickly over the last few days.  Today we had delivery of tarmac which has gone down as the base for the play surfacing which we will see appear over the next few days.  In addition to this, the first splashes of colour have been sprinkled into the area in the form of the toadstools- watch this space!

Thursday 7th July

The layout has been marked down for the the surfacing; the mushrooms and the water-wall have been installed and the wall panels laid out for fixing.
